Planet Shoes
When I first applied to this company to advertise for them I was rather hesitant at how they could make such good quality and affordable shoes and still call themselves an eco friendly company?

Since the moral behind my blog site is "Only Eco Friendly companies Allowed", Did they met the standards?

I wondered whether it complied, upon investigating what they actually used to make their shoes out of I was surprisingly shocked at how many materials that can be recycled and come from sustainable sources to actually make a product that we need and still be good for the environment.
So what makes this shoe company any different from the rest of them out.
Let me tell you about them.

I was very impressed to see the vast range of resources that came from sustainable farming. They also impressed me with the amount of natural fibres and organic materials that can be used to make shoes and bags, I really had no idea as to what when into making shoes. So when I read there list of materials and how they use them to try and eliminate waste and be Eco friendly, i was more than impressed.

It can be done...... those companies out there that say it can't need to take a look at Planet Shoes and learn from them how they can be sustainable and Eco friendly.

Here are some of the natural and organic materials used to create great quality fashionable and functional bags and shoes.

Eco Materials:
Bamboo: this is a very sustainable plant, it can grow up to 24 inches a day making it a resource that can be quickly utilised. The bamboo fibre derived from the bamboo pulp is woven into a fabric that is naturally soft, UV resistant, anti-bacterial, temperature regulating and absorbent. making it great for footwear material.

Organic Cotton: is grown without any pesticides or genetically modified grain. Cotton is produced without petrochemicals which is made from oil.

Coconut: The coconut plant is a sustainable resource because it is fast growing and easy farming because of the great properties it makes it a viable Eco friendly embellishment material for shoe makers.

Cork: is a natural substance that is sustainable and recyclable, it is stripped from the cork oak tree and the section regrows quickly. The cork materials acts like a shock absorber and its elasticity and density make it great for shoe making.

Crepe Rubber: is made from natural latex rubber that has gone through a creper, to give it its rough hewn textured look. The latex rubber is produced natural and tapped from rubber trees. It is often used in the soles of shoes as it reduces the impact of your feet and adds traction.

Hemp: is another plant that grows quickly with little to no pesticides or herbicides, also making it more sustainable to farming. it products over 250% more fibre than cotton. Hemp has been an ancient fibre material used for many generations in footwear to make material soft, breathable and strong.

Eco Latex: and natural rubber are harvested from a variety of laytex producing plants. Such as; the Para Rubber tree, rubber fig tree, spurges, lettuces and even dandelions. Not all produce large amounts but the Para Rubber tree is great it produces more late the  more you tap into it. Now that has to be sustainable!

Recycled Rubber: is primarily from care tyres, one the steel has been taken out the rubber is pulverised to small particles and then powerised and then made into shoe soles.

Jute: is a natural wonder plant is doesn't require pesticides or fertiliser so that makes is a really sustainable and eco friendly plant. The course fibres of the Jute plant can be woven in to jute cloth. Making it biodegradable, strong, durable and UV Resistant.

Silk: is a protein fibre that is renewable and biodegradable that  is produced by the silkworm. their cocoons are unwound and and made into a fibre that is soft and durable. Is has cooling and warming properties great for those mountain boots.

PET Plastics: PET is an abbreviation of Polyethylene Terephthalate, which is the clear plastic that comes from soda and water bottles. The plastic is taken from these bottles and used in shoe laces.

Rice Rubber: is made up of rice husks and latex rubber. Rice husks are usually discarded after harvesting rice for food, but when its combined with natural rubber it makes rice rubber. A sustainable material great for cushioning and shock absorption when used in the soles of shoes

Vegetable Tanned Leather: although its not vegan or vegetarian it is a better option than using synthetic. It is durable and makes a more Eco friendly leather for shoe making.

Water Based glue: Solvent based glue emit chemical compounds in to the air and water. Some of Planet Shoe brand names use water based solvents in their shoe making productions.

Organic Wool: is a great sustainable material that can be used in the shoe making factory. it is biodegradable, renewable, shown from sheep annually. Its insulating and breathable properties make it a fantastic resource.
